A new year brings the need for new CASA volunteers

Too many children who enter into the foster care system do not have a voice to speak up for their well-being and are left feeling alone with an unsure future. With the start of a new year, now is the perfect time for individuals to serve as CASA volunteers and make sure foster children in our community do not get lost in an over-burdened child welfare system. A CASA volunteer, or a Court Appointed Special Advocate, can help a foster child navigate the child welfare system while working to help find a safe, permanent home. Help us meet our goal of twenty new prospective volunteers for our first training class of 2018, which begins Monday, February 12th.

“I chose CASA because I wanted to be able to help a child who couldn't get help otherwise. CASA was perfect for me to be able to do just that. I CASA, can you?,” said Monique Swartz, CASA volunteer.

Prospective volunteers can sign up for the upcoming CASA 101 informational session hosted by CASA of the South Plains on Wednesday, January 17th from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the CASA office in the Reagor Dykes Headquarters at 1215 Avenue J in the second floor conference room. This is a great, no-obligation introduction to CASA and its mission. CASA staff and current Advocates will be on hand to discuss the increasing need for volunteers, what it means to be a CASA, and how community members can help make a difference in the lives of area foster children. Lunch will be provided to attendees.

CASA 101 attendees interested in becoming a CASA volunteer can also begin the application and sign-up process. Training classes can fill up quickly and space is limited.
